Evans Music Room

The wife and sons of the late William S. Evans Sr. have provided the funds for the creation of a multipurpose room that serves as rehearsal room for Central's multiple choirs but is easily reconfigured to be a small recital hall seating up to 100 persons. The room has very good acoustics for music making. It also has its own heating and air conditioning system, and humidity control. Because of the generosity of the Evans family the fee for usage of the room by the community is very modest.

Central Christian has a long and outstanding history of ministry to the Lexington community including Central's Apartments for the low income elderly, an extensive Day Care Program for infants and very young children, a Day Care program for Senior Adults, St. James Place, a clothing store, and many other community oriented projects. We believe the development of a music room to be shared with the community is just another such ministry.

All churches benefit from the services of musicians. However, churches such as ours rely on private teachers, the public schools, universities and colleges to train our singers, organists, choir directors and instrumentalists. Because we are both appreciative of such teachers and institutions and because we have a family who wishes to help make this ministry possible, the Evans Music Room of Central Christian Church has become a reality.

The nine foot concert grand piano in the Evans Music Room is a 1930 Baldwin that has been remanufactured by Clair Davies of Lexington, Kentucky. It is truly a fine instrument. The piano was first on the stage of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. It was acquired in 1988 by Mr. Davies and totally remanufactured. Much attention was given to voicing the piano for use in this small recital hall and even the key touch was carefully adjusted so as to make it light enough to be usable by children.

The church also has a new six foot seven Conservatory Series Yamaha piano in the Evans Music Room, which enables the room to be used for two piano playing.

The Evans Music Room serves as host on weekdays for the Children's Music Workshop - musical experience group classes for infants through elementary school aged children. This program is independently owned by Beth Ellen Rosenbaum (268-2828).

To schedule this room, contact Lynn Gray at the church office.
